As of April 1 2017, it is possible to choose for NIPT instead of the combined test. Both are screening tests for Downs Syndrome, Edwards and Patau, these are chromosomal abnormalities. The test can be done from 11 weeks of pregnancy, and is composed of a blood test. The results follow within 10 days.

The test does not provide a 100% certainty, it is a screening test. If there is no indication of the presence of Down, Edwards and Patau’s Syndrome, this is 99.9% sure. If there is an indication for one of these abnormalities this is true in Down syndrome in 75% of cases, with Edward’s syndrome in 24% of cases and Patausyndroom in 23% of cases.

NIPT is like the combined test NOT covered by insurance. The test costs € 175, -. These costs must be paid by IDEAL and proof of payment must be printed and taken to the laboratory where the bloodtest takes place. NIPT can only be done if you have a social security number(BSN). For people without a social security number or with a foreign insurance the only prenatal screening is by doing the combined test. This is because NIPT is offered in a clinical trial.

“It would be nice if you meet only three midwives in pregnancy”

At Vida, we work with an enthusiastic and committed team of midwives. Together we have a lot (almost 15 years!) of experience, we are flexible and we work with a lot of fun. So far we are working in two teams of five midwives. Sometimes you see a lot of different faces. We think we could do better.

What’s changing:

-From two big teams to four small teams

–New location in Ganzenhoef for your prenatal checks

We’re going to start in October with working in four smaller teams, with in each team three midwives. We think that care in small teams because of the more personal involvement works better. It’s much easier to talk to a person who you know.

In order to be able to provide better care in the district we start on Friday, October 7th with a clinic in the Medical Center Ganzenhoef (in the old Rochdalegebouw). This means that anyone who lives in the postcode areas in 1102, 1103 and 1104 and will enroll at our practice, now can have their checks closer to home.

What doesn’t change:

-The consultation will remain close to your home.

-The emergency numbers and the team format for your birth

-All echoes at Vida by your own midwife-echographist

We will, the same as we do now, divide the teams into the postcode-area you live in. This means that a consultation location will be close to your home. It also means that you are more limited in the days that you can choose to make an appointment. We will give you the option to schedule appointments well in advance. So your employer can take that into account!

At the consultation we will tell you which team you are in, red, blue, yellow or green. Often you continue to see the midwives that you already know, only there are 2 less than before. We expect and hope that you will be satisfied with these changes!

At the 7th of october Maria and Anne are starting prenatal consults in Gezondheidscentrum Ganzenhoef at Bijlmerdreef 1169, second floor. Pregnant women living in zip code area’s 1102, 1103 and 1104 are welcome to come and have their checks over there. For all our other clients we still have the other locations in Venserpolder, Diemen and Reigersbos.
