Emma

We are your regular midwives: Emma van der Weerd and Ellie Corlett.

Emma is an experienced midwife who has been part of the Vida team for a long time. She grew up all over the world and came to the Netherlands on purpose to work here as a midwife. She’s a firm believer in the autonomy of a woman and giving women the chance to give birth in their own way. Emma has a bachelor in public health. She’s also the mother of two sons who were born in 2019 and 2022.

Ellie was born and raised in the UK. A proper Brit then! She studied midwifery there and worked for a number of years as a midwife in both the hospital and in the community. The Dutch obstetric system, where physiology, independence and autonomy have more space, had attracted her for some time, so she dared to cross over to the Netherlands. Without regrets; as a midwife, Ellie feels completely at home with Vida and found Dutch love! She enjoys living in Holland Park with her partner and dog. Ellie is a warm, committed midwife who does not mind night work.

Midwifery Care

Check-up appointments

In the beginning of your pregnancy you will come about once a month for a check-up. This will increase in frequency until the end of your pregnancy when you will come once a week. At essentially all of your appointments you will see one of us. It may happen that due to our appointment schedule or your own schedule it may be more convenient to have your check-up with Team Diemen.

Birth

If you do not have a medical indication then one of the midwives from Team 1 will provide the care during labor and delivery. This is Team Venserpolder/Holland Park or Team Diemen, so aside from Maria and Marike, this is Thessa or Anne. Depending on your preferences this can be at home or in the hospital. We have a lot of experience with water births. We change shifts for who is on-call for deliveries every 24 hours.

Postpartum Week

Our experienced maternity nurses Elsa and Paula do all of the postpartum visits for Team Venserpolder/Holland Park. We strive to have at least one of the visits during the postpartum week to be done by one of the midwives from Team Venserpolder/Holland Park, if possible the midwife who attended the birth.

Ultrasounds

Maria

All ultrasound scans (early viability scan, dating scan, 13 and 20-week, growth, fetal position) are made by one of Vida’s midwife sonographers. For Team Venserpolder/Holland Park this is Marike Nijman and Maria Hoenderdos.

Together we will discuss which ultrasound scans are applicable to your pregnancy.

Aside from making ultrasounds, you may also see Marike and Maria as a regular midwife and who knows, maybe even at your birth.

All ultrasounds scans take place at our location in De Brede Hoed in Diemen.

Prenatal Consultations

Emma and Ellie have prenatal (ultrasound)consultations on various days. All of the appointments are at Tuesday at the health center Venserpolder and on Friday at the Campus Holland Park.

Availability

Your midwife is reachable 24/7 for births and emergencies. If the midwife is already busy with a delivery then another Vida midwife from team 2 or 3 will come to provide the care during your birth. This does not happen often.
